The purpose of a cure and seal is to retain as much moisture from the installation process inside the concrete. The standard industry rule is that concrete will cure totally within 28 to 30 days. The most crucial time of the curing process (which is when the concrete starts to harden from the outside to the inside) is in the first 8 to 48 hours. In this period the concrete will loose most of its moisture, so it is important to try to retain the moisture within the concrete. Cure and seal will try to close the outer pores of the concrete to help prevent the moisture escape too quickly.
Many people get confused with the name cure and seal because it does seal the concrete for a truly brief time (30 days) in most cases maximum. After that period, the cure and seal stop working and then your concrete is no longer sealed.
This is why it is important to seal the concrete with a more permanent sealer to protect and extend the life of the concrete for many years. We recommend the following products to obtain the best curing process and protect the concrete for many years against weather and salts.
1. For curing we recommend using SealGreen Cure and Seal
2. For a more permanent sealer we recommend Sealgreen Concrete Sealer with Salt Defense Technology.
