If I apply the SealGreen Snow and Ice Melter on my new driveway, can you guaranty that my concrete will not be damaged?
This is one of the questions we frequently get, if they use our SealGreen Snow and Ice Melter or any of our sealers or cleaners do we guarantee that it will not damage the concrete in any form?
The answer is NO. Why because they are many factors that need to be considered before any type of guarantee could be issued.
1. Location of the concrete – SealGreen would have to visit every location and test for composition of the concrete and document the following items. Just like an insurance company does when insuring your home.
2. Weather conditions the concrete will be exposed year-round for many years.
3. Purpose of the concrete i.e., commercial vs. residential use
4. The design, engineering, and drainage
5. The composition of the concrete:
a. Thickness of the concrete
b. Detail information for the base used where the concrete will be placed.
c. The soil studies to certify that the concrete and base are installed over the correct type of soil.
d. The thickness of the base gravel to allow for correct drainage of the bottom of the concrete slab.
e. The type of sand used, and ratio is used to cement and aggregate.
f. The type and size of rebar is used and diagram of the location of every rebar.
g. Confirmation that the rebar sat on chairs in the correct level position within the slab during pour.
h. The type of aggregate or gravel used – size, ratio used to mix with sand and cement.
i. The amount of water mixed in concrete, the use of any additives or plasticizer, or other chemical that modifies the mix for a certain purpose.
j. The weather during the installation of the concrete such as cold or hot, or rain and humidity
k. The time the concrete was allowed for pouring, deployment over area, and finishing time.
l. Curing time initially and then the standard curing time and curing method used during the following 30 days.
m. The name and license or the company that installed the concrete and names of installers involved in the pour.
n. The time it took to install the concrete.
o. The name of the concrete mixer and the time the concrete was in the mixing truck before delivery.
They are many more details that are required to install a concrete slab. This is why your concrete installer will not guarantee the concrete 100%. And this is why it is not possible for SealGreen to guarantee a concrete slab that they did not have any involvement on the initial concrete design, installation and curing time.
