We recommend the paint removal by using SealGreen SCR 600 Coating remover for the following reasons:
- This process can be applied to the entire floor or partial areas where the paint needs to be removed.
- This process does not change the existing smooth surface of the concrete. It leaves the floor looking the same as no painted areas were treated.
- The process is simple, faster and costs lower than grinding:
- Day-1 Apply the SealGreen SCR 1600 Coating remover to all the painted surfaces or entire floor. This is done late afternoon, so the coating softens all the paint for easy removal the next day.
- Day-2 Scrape and collect all the paint and remover applied and then scrub/wash the floor with SealGreen Oil Cleaner Degreaser. Finally allow the floor to dry
- Day-3 the floor is ready for the next flooring steps or regular foot traffic.
- The SealGreen SCR 1600 Coating Remover does not have any VOCs, it is safe for humans and pets and does not leave any smell after process completed.
- The following is a video of the application process in a finished basement where sealer coating was removed. https://youtu.be/72bigqG7ByQ
In this case we do not recommend the grinding paint removal process for the following reasons:
1. Grinding will take longer to complete and will cost more.
2. This process will change the surface and look of the concrete because when you grind the floor a 1/16” of the surface of the concrete is remove. This requires specialized equipment and it can be a slow process depending on the hardness of the concrete.
3. Because it changes the look and surface of the concrete it is required to do the entire room because the final outcome will look vastly different from the areas where it was not grinded. Not recommended for partial paint removal.
4. After the grinding is completed, it is required to scrub/wash the floor to remove all the grinded material off.
5. The process usually is slower, more laborious, and changes the final surface of the concrete.
6. We always recommend grinding solution when a floor is stained with color and then seal. This provides a great finishing look.
Just for your information - We always recommend grinding solution when a floor is stained with color and then seal like the many other basement that we have completed for Bickimer. This provides a great finishing look.
