- Our stains are water-based. - Classic Series - Smith's Floor Color Stains - Natural Look - Stain Concentrate - SealGreen and Old World Series - Smith's Color Floor Stains - Natural Look - Transparent Stain Concentrate - SealGreen
- The benefit of a water-based stain is that we are not depending on the quality of the concrete that will be stained.
- Any concrete that has not been sealed or coated can be a candidate for a water-based-stain.
- Water-based stains are more predictable and more dependable to final appearance.
- Water-based stains are not toxic to the environment.
- Water base stains work by absorption into concrete.
- Our SealGreen solution to make the stain more permanent is to mix it with our chemically reactive SG20 Tintable Sealer for Concrete Color Stains - Outdoors Use - SealGreen. This seals and stains the concrete at the same time.
- Since we do not know the content of minerals in your concrete it becomes a guess what the outcome of the color will be when using acid-based stains.
- Acid stains work by reacting with the minerals in the concrete. If the concrete is rich in minerals the acid color will be strong and beautiful. If the minerals are low the acid stain color will be week and sometimes not very pleasing to the eye.
- Acid stains are limited to one or two opportunities to apply.
- Most of the beautiful acid stain floors were specified with extra reactive minerals before the concrete was poured.
